The Plumas County Fire Safe Council, in partnership with the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District and the City of Portola, will hold a community chipping day on April 25. The event, aimed at reducing wildfire risk by clearing natural vegetation, will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the disc golf course entrance next to the former Headwaters Bistro.
Portola-area residents are invited to bring natural woody material such as branches between 3 and 12 feet in length and up to 8 inches in diameter. Each load must not exceed 16 linear feet stacked no higher than 4 feet. A crew will chip the material on site free of charge.
The chipping service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are responsible for unloading their own materials and must adhere to guidance from staff and equipment operators.
Materials not accepted include loose pine needles, leaves, yard debris, vines, shrubs, lumber, construction materials, metal, garbage, or dirt.
