Plumas County Board of Supervisors voted on March 7, to declare a state of emergency in the county due to nonstop snow and rainstorm hits.

County Administrative Officer Debra Lucero said, “The Declaration will provide the county 60 days to assess damages and report them to the State of Emergency Services.

With all the impact from the continuous heavy snow, it has made it hard to clear two lanes to be visible and culverts cleared from debris due to the snow. Machines are beginning to wear and break down, and men are working 12-hour shifts for 12 days straight. Some have fallen ill due to the conditions of the weather and nonstop work, leaving Public Works Director Mannle short-staffed.

Sandbags needed for this weekend can be found at the local fire department, where 10,000 bags have been distributed to Plumas residents. The other concern is the burn scar areas where runoff is much more than soil conditions and will stay under watch as the rain comes in.
