The Lassen County Planning Commission will review a proposal today for a new aggregate mining operation near Susanville, with mining activities expected to begin as early as spring 2027 if approved.
The proposed Skyline Aggregates Mine, submitted by Hat Creek Construction and Materials, would include mining, processing, and reclamation activities on about 460 acres of a 640-acre parcel in Lassen County. The project site is located northeast of Susanville, and the operation would produce hard rock aggregate used for construction materials, including asphalt and concrete.
Plans call for the site to be developed in five phases over an estimated 50-year period. Operations would include crushing, screening, washing, and processing mined materials onsite, along with asphalt and ready-mix concrete production facilities.
The project has undergone environmental review, including a draft Environmental Impact Report addressing potential impacts such as air quality, noise, traffic, biological resources, and visual changes.
The Planning Commission is scheduled to hear the proposal today at 1:30 p.m. at the Lassen County Administrative Center. Public comment will be accepted during the hearing.
