Firefighters in the Plumas National Forest Feather River Ranger District will continue pile-burning efforts today, bringing smoke impacts to the LaPorte area.

Pile burns began yesterday afternoon near Horse Camp and Running Deer campgrounds at Little Grass Valley Reservoir Recreation Area. Forest officials say these are large piles, surrounded by snow and important for fuel reduction at these recreation sites.
They add that smoke from this operation will likely be visible in the La Porte area for the next several days but should not affect the community.

Today, ignitions are planned for around 170 acres near the communities of Forbestown in Butte County and Challenge in Yuba County.
Ignitions are expected to take more than one day.

Smoke from these operations will be visible further south, impacting Forbestown, Challenge, Brownsville, and Dobbins.

You can Expect short-term, minor smoke effects along Forbestown, LaPorte Roads, and nearby forest routes. Reduced visibility can occur, specifically during early mornings and late evenings. Traffic controls may be implemented if smoke affects these roads. You will also see increased firefighting vehicle activity, if traveling these roads you area divised to use caution, watching for fire equipment entering or exiting roads, potentially causing traffic slowdowns.

Burning operations will halt in adverse weather conditions, with firefighters monitoring the situation closely.
