Providing an update on plans for continued pile burning today on the Plumas National Forest.
Firefighters on the Beckwourth Ranger District are returning to the Mohawk Vista project area outside Blairsden this morning and plan to treat approximately 122 acres.
Reports are test fires are successful and pile burning operations are continuing.
Following a successful day of pile burning in Butterfly Valley and at the Cascade Trailhead, firefighters on the Mount Hough Ranger District are planning additional ignitions today near the Mount Hough Ranger District office and along California State Highway 70 between the office and Quincy.
Plans are to treat approximately 22 acres of piles with ignitions occurring over the course of the day. Operations will be highly visible from Highway 70 and the surrounding area.
The area includes numerous piles, including several from fuel reduction work done in late summer and fall of 2024. The newer piles will not be ignited during this treatment.
Short duration, minor smoke impacts are expected along Highway 70, and neighboring forest roads. Visibility on roads in the project areas may be reduced, especially early in the morning and late evening as smoke settles.
There will be increased firefighting equipment traffic in the areas mentioned. Drivers in the area should use caution, watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways, and possible slow traffic.
