Pacific Gas and Electric Co. reports that the PG&E Foundation contributed $250,000 to help local food banks and senior meal programs during the holiday season in PG&E’s service area, including $38,240 to eight food banks in the North State.

The Community Action Agency of Butte County, which serves Plumas County as well as Butte, Colusa, Glenn and Sierra counties, was awarded $15,290. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada, which also includes Plumas County in its service area, received $2,840.

The PG&E Foundation contributed the funds to the California Association of Food Banks, which in turn distributed the funding to local food banks. Earlier last fall the PG&E Foundation contributed $1.12 million to CAFB, and this additional contribution is due to increased need, said foundation staff.

“An increasing number of families today are struggling to put food on their tables, and we are grateful to be able to help,” said Joe Wilson, vice president of PG&E’s North Valley & Sierra Region. “We’re proud of our longstanding partnership with local food banks and meal distribution organization. These community-based groups are a critical safety net for families, the elderly and so many others in helping to ensure they are fed and can lead healthy lives.”
