A new candidate has emerged in the race for Lassen County District 1 Supervisor.

The original three dwindled down to one candidate, Chris Cole, heading into the final day of the declaration period, after it was extended due to incumbent Chris Gallagher choosing not to seek another term.

Now a new name has appeared, Cole will be challenged by Mike Scanlan, a Pastor for Susanville’s Calvary Chapel.

The district encompasses the communities of Westwood, the Eagle Lake area, Susan Hills, and a sliver of Susanville.

Nicholas McBride, Firefighter/EMT, and Kevin Jones, former Police Chief and City Administrator, have dropped out of the running. Jones stated he made the decision not to pursue the office as he “is confident the voters of District 1 will vote for the best-suited person to represent the board in this district.”

The following offices will also be contended:
In Supervisorial District 2: Incumbent Gary Bridges is challenged by the Current Mayor Pro Tem for the city of Susanville, Thomas Hererra. Attorney Robert Burns and Superior Court Commissioner Traci Witry will vie for the Judge’s seat.

In the City of Susanville, four candidates have emerged for the three open seats on the council, replacing Thomas Hererra, Quincy McCourt, and Kevin Stafford. All incumbents have not filed to return to the council when their term expires in June of next year.
