On March 11, 2026, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Sarah Waldron, 32, of Alturas, was driving a Mercedes GLS450 northbound on U.S. Highway 395, south of County Road 2. At the same time, a deer entered the roadway from the east shoulder directly in front of the vehicle, and the Mercedes struck the animal.
Waldron and her passengers, Ryan Waldron, 32, of Alturas, and two juveniles, ages 4 and 7, were not injured.
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 3 p.m., Elidio Borjas Valles, 31, of Gresham, Oregon, was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on County Road 91, just north of Loveness Logging Road. The vehicle left the west side of the roadway, struck a large boulder and overturned.
Borjas Valles sustained minor injuries and declined medical transport, opting to seek his own care.
Later that day, at approximately 6:06 p.m., Alexis Turner, 28, of Alturas, was driving a Kia Rio southbound on County Road 243 (Baldpate Drive), approaching the intersection with County Road 236 (Wood Duck Lane). At the same time, Erik Philips, 37, of Alturas, was driving a Subaru Outback westbound on County Road 236.
Turner began turning east onto Wood Duck Lane directly in front of the Subaru, and the Subaru struck the left side of the Kia.
Turner was the sole occupant of the Kia. The Subaru carried two passengers: Karen Phillips, 30, of Alturas, and a 10-year-old juvenile. No injuries were reported.
Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to have contributed to any of the three crashes. The incidents remain under investigation.
