đź’ĄModoc National Forest Spring Prescribed Fires
Favorable weather conditions in place for hazardous fuels reduction work
ALTURAS, CA April 06, 2026- Modoc National Forest fire officials are planning to conduct several prescribed
burns this spring. These controlled fires aim to promote healthier forests, protect local communities,
infrastructure, and natural resources from wildfire threats.
⚠️The Lava RX covers 1,134 acres in the Big Valley Ranger
District, while the Mowitz RX spans 4,134 acres in the Devil’s Garden Ranger District. Burning will happen only
under weather conditions that allow for proper smoke dispersal. Fire officials advise the public to avoid these
areas during active burns to ensure safety. Warning signs will be posted along roads near all prescribed burn sites
before and during the operations. Smoke from the burns might be visible from roads and surrounding communities
for several days afterward. For detailed information about air quality, go to airnow.gov. For more information
