Since the Plumas National Forest has asked for the Rainbow Family Gathering to leave the headwaters of the Indian River, the site chosen for the 2024 July 4th prayer, due to concerns for the area resources and cultural values, surrounding areas have been on alert expecting Rainbows who are in search of a new location.
One of those is within the Modoc National Forest. The community noted reports of a large gathering, to which Forest Officials responded. They have confirmed that they have been in contact with a large group of approximately 50 individuals reportedly camping in the Bear Camp Flat area in the South Warner Mountains. These campers have stated they are not part of the Rainbow Family of Living Light, gathering in the Plumas National Forest this year. Law enforcement added that they had previous interactions with this same group of campers last year and found them friendly and compliant with regulations. Agency officials are thankful for reports of forest user activities and will continue to monitor the situation.
With less than 12 hours to vacate the forest closure area in the Plumas National Forest, it is unclear whether the Rainbow Family Gathering of Light campers will determine where their new meeting location is or disperse.
