The Modoc National Forest has completed its February snow survey. The snow survey results for the Modoc National Forest, as well as the broader Northern California region, indicate that levels are significantly below average. Blue Lake received 5 inches of snow, representing 23% of typical water content for this time of year. Last year, the area had a snow depth of 16.5 inches with a water content of 86%. Cedar Pass received 8 inches of snow, representing 18% of the typical water content for this time of year. Last year, the snow depth was 30 inches, with a water content of 107%. Adin Mountain received 11.5 inches of snow, representing 28% of the typical water content for this time of year. Last year, the snow depth was 30 inches, with a water content of 123%. A warmer winter has meant many precipitation events hit the area as rain rather than snow, resulting in a poor early-season snowpack for higher elevations like the Modoc National Forest.
