As Modoc High School prepares to bid farewell to long-serving teacher Rodney Grier, he leaves behind a lasting legacy in the form of a handcrafted podium. Tasked with creating a new podium for the school, Grier received no specific design instructions. A colleague recalled, “He kindly agreed, and when he asked if I had anything in mind, I said, ‘Nope. Just do what you do and work your magic.’”
The outcome was extraordinary. The podium is ornate, unique, and practical, embodying Grier’s craftsmanship and the dedication he has shown throughout his career. Designed with both beauty and functionality in mind, it transcends its role as mere furniture.
“It is beautiful. It is unique. It is ornate. It is industrious. It is practical. It will be loved,” his colleague remarked. “Mr. Grier—you are all of those things, and you will be greatly missed.”
Grier has been a beloved educator at Modoc High, and his final creation stands as a symbol of his impact, ensuring his presence will be felt in the classroom for years to come.
