The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an ongoing phone scam.
We have received reports of a person impersonating a sergeant/employee with the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office. This individual is calling residents and claiming there is a warrant for their arrest, then requesting payment or personal information to “resolve” the issue.
Please be advised:
Law enforcement will NEVER call you to demand payment or request personal or financial information.
We will NOT contact you by phone about a warrant.
The callback number provided by the scammer may appear to match our office number, but it is NOT legitimate.
The address given by the caller is NOT that of the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office.
If you receive such a call:
DO NOT provide any personal information or payment.
Hang up immediately.
REPORT the call to the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 233-4416.
