Modoc County District Attorney Nina Salarno announces that defendant Adam Doig was sentenced in Modoc County Superior Court, Case No. F-25-057, on October 23, 2025.
Adam Doig was found guilty by a jury of his peers on August 25, 2025, of the following charges:
Count 1: Felony – Penal Code §245(a)(4) (Assault by Means Likely to Produce Great
Bodily Injury)
The jury also found true the first enhancement under Penal Code §12022.7(e), which
applies to personal infliction of great bodily injury during the commission of domestic
violence.
Count 2: Misdemeanor – Penal Code §273.5(a) (Domestic Violence)
Count 5: Misdemeanor – Penal Code $21310 (Possession of a Dirk or Dagger)
The defendant strangled and threatened to kill his victim. Fearing for her life, she fled and sought the assistance of law enforcement. Due to the quick response of the Alturas Police Department, the defendant was quickly apprehended and charged accordingly.
At sentencing, the Modoc County Probation Department recommended a term of five years in state prison. The District Attorney’s Office argued aggravating circumstances and requested a mid-term sentence of seven years. The Honorable Judge Harr adopted
the Probation Department’s recommendation and sentenced Doig to five years in state prison. District Attorney Nina Salarno commends the victim for her courage and cooperation with the prosecution of this violent individual. Statistically, if a victim is strangled even
one time, studies show she is 750% more likely to be killed by her abuser. Our office would like to thank the Alturas Police Department for their thorough investigation and Assistant District Attorney Richard Cotta for his diligent prosecution of this case. Inter agency collaboration remains vital in conveying that domestic violence will not be tolerated in Modoc County.
