The Modoc County Board of Supervisors is contemplating significant changes to enhance the county’s financial management following insights from a consulting firm’s presentation on May 15. The firm’s Business Opportunity Assessment highlighted persistent issues such as outdated technology, reliance on paper-based systems, and insufficient inter-departmental coordination.

Key recommendations from the report include:

  • Upgrading to a modern, cloud-based financial system.
  • Implementing online tools for tracking employee hours and records.
  • Transitioning from spreadsheet budgeting to a collaborative online platform.
  • Establishing committees with staff from various departments to oversee updates and ensure uniform procedures.

  • Enhancing communication and planning among departments regarding software and technology.

Supervisor Ned Coe expressed optimism, stating that these changes are crucial for achieving a real-time financial overview of the county. Although the county has bounced back from previous financial difficulties, many systems remain inefficient and prone to errors. The Board acknowledges the necessity of these updates, with a commitment to a structured, phased implementation process.
