Anyone who uses the City sewer system should be responsible for what they flush and pour down drains. Every property owner connected to the City sewer system can be a contributor to sewer problems and potentially a victim of those problems.
Putting the wrong things down the drain can damage the sewer system, cause sewer backups in your home, and sewer releases into the environment. As a reminder, do not flush the following items:
Cleaning Wipes
Disposable Diapers
Feminine Hygiene Products
Cotton Balls/Cotton Swabs
Unused Medication
Bandages/First Aid Wrappings
Drugs or Drug Paraphernalia
Facial Tissue
Condoms
Additionally, please do not pour grease, fats, or oils down your drains. Grease in sewer pipes cause sewer maintenance problems for property owners and the City.
When you use your toilet, showers, sinks, garbage disposals, washing machines, and dishwashers, wastewater leaves your home through pipes that connect to the City sewer system. Being aware of what you’re pouring down drains and flushing will help prevent unnecessary sewer problems.
