Modoc Sheriffs have arrested a man for wielding an axe and attempting to kill another outside Cedarville.
Around 9 pm, the sheriff’s office says, deputies were called out to cressler street for reports of a man breaking car windows, and while en route, received a second call that the same man was carrying an axe and was involved in a fight. The man was identified as 63-year-old Matthew Grover. As deputies arrived, they found 60-year-old Timothy Staton, who reportedly was stuck by the axe in his chest.
Grover was soon located and placed under arrest. He is being held without bail in the Modoc County jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder.
The victim Tim Staton was airlifted to an out-of-the-area hospital, where he has been released.
