For Immediate Release-Flood Warning for Northwestern Lassen County

The National Weather Service issued a forecast for major flooding in Northwestern Lassen County including Big Valley, Bieber and Nubieber. A flood warning is in effect until noon on Thursday, February 6th. Peak flows are projected to be higher than the flows experienced during the flood of February 1986.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office to coordinate possible resources for those that could be affected by flooding in the area.

Sandbags: Sandbags will be available at the Lassen County District 4 Road Shop located at Bridge Street in Bieber. The sandbags are being filled by inmates from the CAL FIRE Intermountain Conservation Camp. The sandbags will be available by self-service.

Livestock: We are working on a location to take large animals if evacuations became necessary. It would be wise to begin planning ahead in case this becomes necessary.

Evacuation Center: If evacuations become necessary, an evacuation center will be established at the Adin Community Center located on State Highway 299 in Adin.
