Local Programs Unite to Save Christmas for Lassen County Kids

The loss of a Christmas tradition, the Lassen County Toys for Tots program has been shuttered.

The organizers announced the “difficult decision” this week.

But there’s still hope, as the Toys for Tots program has been “working closely with and discussing [the] decision with the other programs available in the community.” Salvation Army Angel Tree and Holiday with a Hero will step up and “agree to accept additional families to continue bringing Christmas cheer to the children throughout Lassen.”

Susanville Salvation Army coordinator Carla McDonald says that although this adds more Christmas wishes to fulfill this year, the Angle tree program will expand their tree locations, and more tags will adorn them. Caral confirms that roughly 300 more children will be split between the Angle Tree program and Holiday with a Hero.

The programs are extending the invitation to help fulfill these needs by asking for your time to volunteer, as more hands will be needed to ensure families receive thier gifts in time for the Holiday.

If you have questions about how/where to donate, purchase gifts off the Angel Tree, or volunteer, you can contact Carla at the Susanville Salvation Army.
