Lassen County Sheriffs and other county law enforcement agencies will don their running gear this month to support the Special Olympics. This year will mark the second annual Lassen County Torch Run, with a new addition of welcoming the community to run alongside the officers and staff.

Lassen County Sheriff Lt David Woginrich says opening ceremonies will be held June 15th on the steps of the Historic Courthouse starting at 7 am, featuring speakers Sheriff Growdon, Chief of Police Ryan Cochran, and Lassen County Probation.

The run will kick off at 7:30. Runners will go from courthouse to courthouse, starting at the Historical Courthouse, running down Mill Street, and turning onto Weatherlow, to Riverside Drive, down to Lassen County’s Superior Courthouse.

A goal of 5,000 dollars has been set to be raised this year, with the departments already receiving nearly one-third of that goal to date.

In the Torch Run’s 42-year history, starting in Wichita, Kansas, nearly a billion dollars have been raised to support the Special Olympics. You can visit the Lassen County Sheriffs’ or Probation Facebook page to donate or register.
