One Local Lassen High Coach has been voted Coach of the Year by Northern Section Sports Reporters. Jim Ernaga, a coach for the Lassen High School Varsity girls’ basketball team for nearly a decade, received the title, saying he “didn’t even know about it.” Ernaga said being recognized by a group you’ve never met is a great honor. Yet he said it wouldn’t have been possible without help from his assistant coach Greg Satica and the entire team. He said in good humor, “they’re so good, I can’t screw it up.”
The team took it all the way to state. Ending just three victories short of the California Division III state championship.
Ernaga shared he was very proud of the girls and their successful season, and receiving coach of the year is not achievable by one person it is only with the support of the team, Lassen High, his assistant coach Satica, the boosters, and parents.
In addition to Ernaga’s recognition, two players were placed on the “All-Northern Section Team.” Graceyn Harlan was placed on Girl’s Basketball SECOND TEAM, and Shade Satica was placed on Girl’s Basketball FIRST TEAM.
Shade Satica continues to be quite the athlete; in volleyball, Shade received the 2022-2023 CIF Fall Female Spirit of Sport Award! Taking her to Burbank to attend the April CIF State Federated Council luncheon.
The CIF Spirit of Sport Award recognizes students who live the ideals of Pursuing Victory with Honor in their lives and athletic endeavors. Student-athletes are selected based on exemplary sportsmanship, school/community service, and leadership.
Shade will receive a Spirit of Sport certificate, an acrylic award, and a $2,500.00 scholarship. These will be presented to her at the luncheon Friday, April 28th.
