Local heroes were celebrated for risking their lives in a courageous and selfless rescue of a bedridden woman, highlighting their dedication to the community.

Public Safety Chief Mike Bollinger recognized the heroic efforts of the first responders for their bravery and team work when a home on North Mesa street went up in flames on July 19th.

Bollinger noted that those who rushed in to rescue the bedridden woman “did what the public expects of them by putting the life of a citizen ahead of their own personal safety.”

During the meeting body cam footage displayed how these brave few rushed inside the home without hesitation or gear, grabbing a blanket to get the woman to safety.

Bollinger stated within the next minute the house became fully engulfed in flames. He emphasized that their quick actions saved the woman’s life.

Of the honored during the City Council’s Wednesday, September 18th meeting were 3 firefighters from Calfire’s Lasen Modoc Unit, Fire Apparatus Engineer John Boshell, Firefighter Logan Ito, and Firefighter Jason Baum, along with 3 from the Susanville Police Department, Police Sergeant Kevin Singletary, Officer Victor Salas and Officer Erica Tassone.
