LMUD Sets Date for Rate Workshop

The Lassen Municipal Utility District board has set a rate workshop as promised following November’s rate increase. At the boards, last meeting General Manager Pat Holley said future rate hikes are very likely as the cost of power continues to rise due to the lack of hydropower from depleted reservoirs and the CAL ISO Flex Alert days, which make prices spike twenty times greater when issued.

The district is currently under collecting and is in a deep deficit it will need to make up to maintain obligations. The December 16th workshop will aim to crunch the numbers, including current rates, purchase power costs and likely increases in power costs. The board will not decide on a second rate adjustment during this meeting. A public hearing has already been set for December 20th during the board’s regular monthly meeting.

The December 16th workshop and December 20th public hearing will be held at the LMUD business offices at 65 S. Roop street in Susanville beginning at 5:30.
