United Way of Northern California recently announced that president and CEO Larry Olmstead will retire effective March 7, 2025. The board of directors named Kalie Brisbon, the agency’s chief operating officer, as his successor.

Olmstead joined UWNC as president and CEO in 2016 after serving more than five years as an executive at United Way Silicon Valley in San Jose. Under his leadership, UWNC has expanded its staff, programming and revenue more than fivefold, the organization said.

Incoming CEO Brison joined UWNC in 2019 as the 211 NorCal program manager. She rose to senior director of programs, driving the agency’s expansion of initiatives supporting homelessness services, emergency preparedness, 211, financial stability and public and mental health education and resources. Brisbon was promoted to chief operating officer in March 2024.

Sonia Sullivan-Aery, chair of the UWNC Board, saluted Olmstead’s achievements. “Kalie’s vision, dedication and leadership make her the ideal person to build on Larry’s incredible legacy. We’re confident that UWNC will continue to thrive under her guidance and build a healthier, more resilient community for all,” she said.

Olmstead agreed. “It’s been a joy and inspiration to work closely with Kalie the past six years. Kalie is a gifted executive, skilled, authentic, and compassionate. Under her leadership, United Way of Northern California will take its mission of service to new heights,” he said.

“I’m honored and grateful to lead United Way of Northern California into this next chapter,” said Brisbon. “The north state is my home, and I’m passionate about continuing our work to serve the north state’s most pressing needs.”

UWNC provides disaster support services in Plumas County and collaborates with Plumas Rural Services to offer mental health, substance use and other health-related services. The organization aims to begin offering 211 NorCal, a service connecting people with health and human services options, in the future.
