Lassen Volcanic National Park Goes Cashless

Leave your cash at home; starting May 1, Lassen Volcanic National Park will switch to a cashless fee system and only accept electronic or mobile payments for entrance and permit fees.
Even self-registration pay stations, often called “iron rangers,” will require you to provide credit card information instead of cash.

This change will affect entrance fees and campgrounds in remote areas like Butte Lake. To avoid headaches, you are encouraged to buy a Lassen 7-Day Entrance pass or a Lassen Annual pass ahead of time or get the America the Beautiful Pass, which grants access to all national park sites and other federal lands from the USGS Store.

Lassen Volcanic Superintendent Jim Richardson says entrance fees are essential to improve the visitor experience in national parks, including road and facility repairs, trail improvements, installation of accessible exhibits, and the protection of visitors and park resources. Going cashless will make it easier for the parks to manage fees and increase available revenue for critical projects and visitor services while improving accountability and reducing risks.
