Due to the recent snowfall Lassen Peak gets over a foot of new snowpack that offsets the early spring melt with the recent warmer temperatures. A manual measurement of the snowpack at Lake Helen showed a depth of nearly 8 ½ feet and 43 inches of snow water content equivalent. This winter’s reduced snowfall contributes to the Severe Drought status across the Lassen region and most of California. Snowpack depth on lower Lassen Peak is 60% of the March average.
