The Lassen National Forest is in a planning phase for a long-term landscape-level project called the Backbone Project. It will be located within the Burney-Hat Creek Basins Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Project area. They are looking for your input on identifying any effects or issues that may arise from the project.
The goal of the project is to improve forest health and diversity, improve fire resilience and improve wildlife habitat resilience
The project area is about 7600 acres west of the Thousand Lakes Wilderness and continues south to the northeast corner of Latour State Demonstration Forest. You can find the full description of the project including maps on the Lassen National Forest website. Your comments need to be submitted before December 27th and may be submitted to Robin Wall, District Ranger, at the Hat Creek Ranger District. A decision on the project is expected by the middle of next year.
