Lassen High School met on Tuesday to discuss a potential contract with Clayful. An organization that employs trained professionals in coaching with a prior four-year mental health education.
This program has serviced eight districts nationwide and has been in business for almost two years. The program allows students to text and explain the anxiety they are experiencing. The licensed wellness coach would provide the proper tools to help walk the student through their feelings and how to handle a situation. If there is a threat the wellness coach feels needs to have an emergency agency step in, they will alert them and the parent. This is an online chat that students would use from their personal tablets or cell phones from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. M-F. A parent can opt their child out of the services if desired.
The estimated contract came in at around 70,000 for a 15-month time frame, as the Highschool also wishes to support its students through the summer. Superintendent Nugent pushed for this program to support his students, and with the board split 50/50 on the contract’s time frame, Nugent will meet with Clayful to rediscuss the contract for the months provided since the program is expected to come in by May.
