The state’s Office of Education released its educational Dashboard for the year, tallying up the school’s academic successes.

Lassen High School Superintendent Morgan Nugent says this was the first year the effects of the pandemic would be reflected in how the school compared with the rest of the state.

Nugent acclaimed overall test scores “saw a tremendous jump” from previous years, surpassing expectations.

In math, scores increased by 21 points, while English scores went up by nearly 15 points. Though still falling below standard, Nugent acknowledges there’s a long way to go, but the steady increase shows promise.

The high school also saw English Language Learners put up impressive scores, working towards their proficiency. Levels gained 13%. Yet, more significantly, scores reflected that nearly half of ELL students did not regress in their studies as was seen during the pandemic due to the lack of interaction and fewer days in the classroom.

Graduation rates also increased, resulting in over 96% of the student body crossing the stage. In 2019, graduation rates were near 90%.

In the face of pandemic challenges, Lassen High School’s Superintendent Morgan Nugent is optimistic about the notable improvements, acknowledging the journey ahead. Yet, the steady increase signals promise, and the gains and boost in graduation rates underscore the school’s resilience and commitment to student success.
