A jury convicted 38-year-old NGIRMANG YAOCH of Susanville of two counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14. He will be sentenced on May 30th, where he could receive a sentence of 15 to life for each count and additional penalties for the other counts and enhancements for which he was convicted.
The trial was successful as the DA, Melyssa Rios, says the office was “fortunate to have forensic evidence.” Though Rios says, the courage of the young survivor ultimately led to the conviction. Taking great strength to come to court, face her abuser, and tell her story through her tears to the jury. Ongoing recovery support will be offered to the young woman through the Victim and Child Advocacy units.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney Rios, with the assistance of Lassen County Victim Witness Services, the multi-disciplinary interview team from the Mikailia Child Advocacy Center, District Attorney Investigations, and the Susanville Police Department.
