Lassen County Sheriff on Clear Creek Incident

On July 9, 2022, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office received information from detectives with the Ferndale Police Department in Washington, regarding a homicide that occurred in Ferndale, Washington, on July 7, 2022. Ferndale detectives stated they obtained an arrest warrant for Todd Daniel Andersen, 49, in connection with the homicide. Andersen fled in a gray Dodge Challenger, and could possibly be going to an address in Clear Creek, California (Lassen County). Ferndale detectives stated Andersen was considered to be armed and dangerous.
Shortly after receiving this information, it was reported to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Andersen and his vehicle were located in Clear Creek. Upon confirming the report, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Crisis Negotiations teams were called out. A warrant was obtained by Lassen County Sheriff’s Office personnel to search for and arrest Andersen.
At approximately 1650 hours, the SWAT Team approached a residence in Clear Creek where Andersen was known to be. Andersen was spotted in the driveway and he immediately ran away towards the back of the residence. SWAT Team members located Andersen as he was lying down on an embankment holding a gun to his head. SWAT Team members attempted de-escalation techniques, but unfortunately, Andersen shot himself. SWAT Team members and other deputies immediately began life-saving efforts on Andersen. These life-saving efforts continued for approximately 17 minutes until paramedics arrived on scene. At approximately 1714 hours, Andersen was pronounced deceased.

Further, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff would like to specially thank and recognize the efforts of all personnel involved in this unfortunate and traumatic incident.
