On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office received a notification of a list issued by the United States Department of Homeland Security that Lassen County was included in a list of “Sanctuary Counties.”  Counties with such a designation do not cooperate or provide information to the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Officials from Lassen County were not contacted or consulted about being added to this list.

On January 8, 2019, the Lassen County Board of Supervisors passed Resolution #19-004 stating that we are not a Sanctuary County.  The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with all Federal, State and Local Partners to ensure the safety of our citizens in Lassen County.

On June 2, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office as informed the list was removed from the Homeland Security website after concerns expressed by Sheriff’s nationwide.
