Lassen’s Housing and Grants division will move forward in partnership with ColWest Investments to convert the old medical facility on Hospital Lane into a housing complex prioritizing youth at risk of homelessness.

The partnership began in July when ColWest asked for the Board of Supervisors to approve the application to the HomeKey grant program, a state-funded initiative to tackle homelessness in California.

Lassen County and ColWest Investments received $2,917,454.00

Director of Public Health and Social Services, Barbara Longo, said HSS is excited to partner with the project, sharing she believed this is a “fantastic opportunity for Lassen County.”

The facility, located at 560 Hospital Lane, lies near Diamond View Middle School and will be converted into an expanded 15-unit housing complex. Melanie Westwrook, co-owner of ColWest in July said 10 of the units will be dedicated to at-risk youth, with the additional 5 to potentially house a general population of those at risk of homelessness.
