More than 500 students from across Lassen County participated in the Fine Arts & History Festival, held March 3–4, 2026, at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. The event provided students in grades 3–8 with an engaging, hands-on opportunity to explore creativity, expression, and history through interactive learning experiences.
Hosted by the Lassen County Office of Education, the festival, also known as Creative Palooza, featured a full day of immersive workshops designed to spark imagination and curiosity. Students rotated through a variety of activities including visual arts, music, theater, storytelling, and creative writing, allowing them to experience different forms of artistic expression in a fun and collaborative environment.
A highlight of the event was the History on Display component, led by Lassen High School students. High school U.S. History classes presented projects titled “100 Years of U.S. History,” which they began developing at the start of the semester. Students worked in teams to select their topics, design their presentations, and creatively showcase their research. Festival attendees had the opportunity to learn directly from these student presenters, creating a meaningful peer-topeer learning experience.
“The festival is a powerful way to bring learning to life,” said Lassen County Superintendent of Schools, Patricia Gunderson. “Students are not only engaging in the arts, but also connecting with history in a way that is interactive, student-driven, and memorable.”
The Fine Arts & History Festival continues to be a valued annual event, highlighting the importance of arts education and interdisciplinary learning while fostering collaboration among students across grade levels.
