Tony Shaw, the Lassen County Administrative Officer, announced his resignation effective March 15, 2025, in an email sent to members of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors and department heads. Shaw, who had been appointed to the position on December 17, 2024, and assumed the role on December 29, 2024, cited his decision to resign in a February 11 email to Chairman Tom Neely.
During his appointment, Shaw’s qualifications were praised by the retiring CAO, Richard Egan, who emphasized the importance and complexity of the role. Egan also highlighted that Shaw’s initial salary request was $184,163.20, based on comparisons with similar positions in the state’s smaller counties. Despite this, Shaw’s contract was adjusted to increase his salary to over $192,000 per year after a proposal from District 1 Supervisor Chris Gallagher.
Shaw, recognized for his fairness by District 2 Supervisor Gary Bridges, expressed his willingness to earn more due to the demanding nature of his responsibilities. Tony Shaw was not available for comment regarding his resignation.
