Plumas District Hospital announces that Kristie Rood, a licensed clinical social worker at the hospital’s Senior Life Solutions program, has been named 2025 SLS therapist of the year by Psychiatric Medical Care, which manages the SLS program.

Psychiatric Medical Care partners with more than 250 hospitals and health systems across the country to provide behavioral health care services. Top-performing employees and SLS programs are recognized annually based on their excellence in demonstrating Psychiatric Medical Care’s values of care, compliance and community, said organizers. Award recipients were chosen for providing outstanding patient care, excellent comprehension and execution of compliance regulations, and strong community engagement.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition for the work that I truly feel blessed to be able to do,” said Rood. “This award reflects the courage of each of my patients who trust me to do this work with them and the amazing professionals who I have had the pleasure to work with in this career. I am grateful beyond words.”

“Seeing Kristie Rood honored as therapist of the year comes as no surprise to us,” said JoDee Johnson, CEO at Plumas District Hospital. “Her empathy, commitment and genuine care for every patient truly changes lives. We are beyond proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement with her.”

Plumas District Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions program supports the unique needs of older individuals, typically 65 and older, experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief and other mental health challenges that are often associated with aging. SLS program staff include a board-certified psychiatrist, a nurse practitioner, a licensed therapist, a registered nurse and other trained professionals to ensure each patient receives the best possible care, said the hospital.

Families, friends, community members, physicians, individuals and other health professionals can refer people to the program. Self-referrals are also welcome. More information, education and support discussions are available by calling 530-283-7131.
