The Plumas-Sierra County Fair has announced the appointment of Katie Reid Harris as its new fair director, bringing a familiar face with deep roots in the region’s agricultural community into the leadership role.

Harris previously served as the fair’s Livestock Superintendent, where she worked with exhibitors, volunteers, judges, vendors, and staff during the annual fair. She has also worked as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, helping mentor students in agricultural education, leadership, and community service.

According to the fair, Harris also brings experience coordinating large-scale conferences and public events, managing volunteers and event staff, and overseeing events attended by thousands of people.

Her appointment follows the departure of longtime Fair Manager John Steffanic, who retired earlier this year after leading the Plumas-Sierra County Fair for more than two decades. During his tenure, Steffanic guided the fair through numerous challenges and changes, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovery efforts following the Dixie Fire, while helping maintain the fair as one of the region’s signature annual events.

Fair officials say Harris’ combination of agricultural experience and event management will help continue the fair’s long-standing traditions while exploring opportunities to expand the use of the fairgrounds as a year-round community event venue.

The 2026 Plumas-Sierra County Fair is scheduled for later this summer, with organizers now preparing for this year’s event under Harris’ leadership.
