Juniper Fire to 862 acres, five-percent containment Alturas, Calif., July 6, 2021 — The Juniper Fire started yesterday approximately 17 miles west of Davis Creek near South Mountain Reservoir (T46N R12E SEC19). It was active on all flanks with spot fires outside the main fire perimeter. It was last reported at 862 acres. Firefighters report line around 95 percent of the fire with five-percent containment. Containment percentages are not how much line is completed, but how much confidence fire managers have that line will hold. Southwest winds to 35 mph are expected to move the fire north/northeast today. High winds and single-digit relative humidity will test fire lines this afternoon. Please avoid the area and be aware of increased fire-suppression traffic. Resources shared from other fires in the area along with neighbors out of Lakeview and Susanville have been instrumental in helping local firefighters on the Juniper Fire. Wildland firefighters and dispatchers have plenty of work to do without having to worry about escaped campfires or roadside starts. Please maintain equipment, vehicles and trailers appropriately, avoid risky burning practices and adhere to fire-safety restrictions. Learn more at https://go.usa.gov/x6V9u. |
