July 7 Juniper Fire update
Alturas, Calif., July 7, 2021 —The Juniper Fire was last reported at 964 acres and 15-percent contained. Heat and wind concerns continue.
Fire behavior was again active yesterday afternoon, but firefighters have so far been able to complete new line around fire escaping existing containment efforts.
While ground-based firefighters are working through hot conditions, aerial resources have been critical in helping them keep much of the fire’s heat within containment lines.
Please avoid the area between South Mountain and Green Tank reservoirs and be aware of increased fire-suppression traffic on the Crowder and South Main roads, also known as Forest Road 73.
A Red Flag Warning was issued by the National Weather Service for this afternoon saying, “A drier air mass combined with gusty winds will lead to critical fire weather conditions across the Modoc today.” Learn more at https://www.weather.gov/mfr/.
Wildland firefighters and dispatchers have plenty of work to do without having to worry about escaped campfires or roadside starts. Please maintain equipment, vehicles and trailers appropriately, avoid risky burning practices and adhere to fire-safety restrictions. Learn more at https://go.usa.gov/x6V9u.
