July 8 Juniper Fire update
Alturas, Calif., July 8, 2021 —The Juniper Fire was last reported at 1,011 acres and 25-percent contained. Fire behavior was minimal overnight, with larger fuels burning and smoldering within containment lines.
Firefighters are mopping up remaining hot spots near the heel of the fire, going in 100 feet from containment lines. Access to the remote location over rough roads is a challenge.
A Red Flag Warning continues for gusty winds and low relative humidity today. Learn more at https://www.weather.gov/mfr/.
While ground-based firefighters are working through hot conditions, aerial resources have been critical in helping them keep much of the fire’s heat within containment lines.
Please avoid the area between South Mountain and Green Tank reservoirs and be aware of increased fire-suppression traffic on the Crowder and South Main roads, also known as Forest Road 73.
Please do not risk starting additional fires. Maintain equipment, vehicles and trailers appropriately, avoid risky burning practices and adhere to fire-safety restrictions. Learn more at https://go.usa.gov/x6V9u.
