The Indian Valley American Legion Post 568 invites the community to celebrate Veterans Day Nov. 11 with a grand opening at its recently completed post building located at 430 Main St. in Greenville. The event will start at noon following the 2025 Veterans Day Greenville parade, which begins at 11 a.m.
The parade is organized and supported by the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce. Any veterans wishing to participate in the parade are invited to join the post in the march. Participants must arrive at the post parking lot no later than 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 11.
The grand opening will include a view of the new building and a free hosted lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and fixings. American Legion members encourage the community to celebrate Veterans Day by attending the parade, and then stopping by their new post building afterward.
The post’s former building was destroyed by the Dixie Fire on Aug. 4, 2021. That building was the former Greenville Elementary School, which was donated by the Plumas Unified School District to the post in the early 2000s. Construction of the new structure started in late fall 2024 by Beatty Construction, of Quincy. A county certificate of occupancy was issued July 12, 2025.
The post reports that the cost of construction was funded through the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. Dixie Fire settlement. A major portion of the landscaping funding was provided by the Dixie Fire Collaborative through the services provided by Michaela Trammell, chief executive officer of the Dixie Fire Canopy Project.
The post thanks Plumas Bank for allowing members to hold monthly meetings after the fire at its Greenville bank location.
The new building was the site of the 2025 Gold Diggers Day pancake breakfast earlier in the year. Upcoming events include a scheduled community-based Thanksgiving dinner and a Christmas Toys for Tots event set for early this December.
