Incarcerated Individuals Graduate with Job Certifications and Apprenticeships at High Desert State Prison

Twenty graduates of the California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) will receive industry-accredited job certifications and/or apprenticeships at a graduation ceremony held at High Desert State Prison on June 11, 2025. This event will take place in front of family and friends.

Tommy DeLuna, a former CALPIA graduate, will speak at the ceremony. He now serves as an Employment Specialist for the St. Vincent De Paul Exodus Project, which provides mentoring and resources for individuals reintegrating into society after incarceration.

CALPIA programs are designed to reduce recidivism by offering incarcerated individuals valuable training opportunities. The organization boasts a 15% return to custody rate within three years, indicating that 85% of participants successfully avoid returning to prison.
