If you have been waiting on I-80 to re-open and planning travel Truckee CHP shares some warnings for your trip. Travel will be very slow moving so plan ahead for the extra travel time, have plenty of gas, and extra food and snacks. Services along 80 are also limited with the impact of the storms. Food and gas is limited. The CHP warns that if it is not necessary to travel across Donner pass to avoid the area. Both directions of the interstate re-opened late yesterday evening. There are strict R-2 chain controls over the summit.
And Hwy 50 has re-opened. Travelers saw a 50 mile stretch of stop and go traffic in both directions with the re-opening. Travel will continue to be long and slow so plan accordingly if you are headed out that way for your holiday travel plans.
State Route 32 is currently closed, from the junction with State Route 36 to 0.5 miles east of the Butte/Tehama County line, due to winter weather conditions and multiple disabled vehicles. There is no estimated time for when the roadway will reopen.
All high elevations highways will continue to be impacted as temperatures continue to drop and snow levels with them down to 1000 feet. The Reno national Weather service says snow showers are likely to continue through the week, with today and Friday being the most likely to see the most snowfall.
