High Desert State Prison Highlights Community Involvement

Outside the prison walls, the incarcerated and staff come together to help the community.

In the last few months, High Desert State Prison (HDSP) staff helped the popular and community-centered Holiday with a Hero Program by donating sports equipment for kids.

The program brings together Lassen County first responders and other volunteers to build and encourage relationships between children and first responders who often meet these individuals under traumatizing situations creating fear rather than trust.
With the help of HD staff raising funds in the community and through incarcerated sales, monies were used to help Holiday With a Hero provide not only athletic equipment and gear for children but also athletic scholarships. High Desert staff has been able to participate in Holiday With a Hero over the last six years.

Additionally, HDSP staff will continue its community service this summer by helping sponsor the third annual Holiday with a Hero charity golf tournament.
