With the arrival of winter a bit earlier than expected, seasonal road closures are beginning earlier than normal as well. The Sierra County Sheriffs’ office along with Plumas County has decided to close the Gold Lake highway for winter. The closure begins at Bassetts station in Sierra county on hwy 49 and in Plumas county, it starts at hwy 89 in Graeagle. The highway does become used for over-snow vehicle use, though, a full 18 inches is needed before grooming can begin.
