Golf Course Manager Announces Resignation, City Explores Options

The retirement of Diamond Mountain Golf course’s manager has prompted the city to explore new options.

Under the successful leadership of Dave Martin over the past three years, the 18-hole course has operated profitably for the first time in years. City Administrator Dan Newton recommends that now is the ideal time to lease the course to a management firm, enabling the city to continue earning profits while eliminating staff responsibilities. However, preparing an invitation for vendors would require significant staff time.

Alternatively, the council could search for a replacement manager, which would be the easiest option. Martin has agreed to finish the current season, giving the council time to search for a replacement while exploring ways to enhance the course’s appeal to potential management companies. Councilmember Mendy Shuster suggested that this could be accomplished by building a bridge or underpass across the road to the other side of the course. This would enable the now-vacant restaurant to benefit from off-site alcohol sales, which the current liquor license does not permit.

The discussion will continue in an upcoming city council meeting.
