The Susanville Salvation Army, in collaboration with United Way of Northern California, is offering free tax filing services for individuals with an annual income of $67,000 or less. This service is available as a drop-off site only, meaning taxes will not be prepared on-site. Instead, all required documents will be scanned and uploaded to a secure server for a tax preparer in Redding to access, prepare, and file the taxes.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax preparation for households that need help preparing their tax returns, including individuals with disabilities and those who are not fluent in English.

To utilize this service, the following documents are required:

  • Photo IDs for you and your spouse (if applicable)
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and all dependents
  • Dates of birth for you, your spouse, and all dependents
  • Forms W-2 and/or 1099
  • Forms 1095-A
  • Prior-year tax returns and income transcripts from the IRS
  • Total daycare expenses paid and the daycare provider’s Tax ID
  • All deductions and credits, including charitable contributions

  • Proof of account and bank routing number for direct deposit of any refund

Ensure you have all these documents ready when using the drop-off service.
