Residents interested in local wildlife and road safety will have a chance to learn more about proposed wildlife crossings along the Highway 395 corridor during a free community event March 5 in Beckwourth.

The presentation will focus on the Highway 395 Wildlife Crossing Project and broader efforts to reconnect fragmented habitats across California. Wildlife crossings are designed to help animals safely pass over or under busy roadways, reducing vehicle collisions and supporting healthier ecosystems.

Guest speakers include Mari Galloway, California Program Director for the Wildlands Conservancy, and Sam Trezona, Wildlife Campaign Associate with Environment California. The two will discuss the goals of the project and how it fits into statewide conservation efforts.

The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Sierra Valley Preserve Nature Center, 495 Beckwourth-Calpine Road (A23), in Beckwourth. Admission is free.

Organizers encourage those planning to attend to register in advance at frlt.org/events.
