First 5 Plumas invites families with children ages 0 to 5 to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Each month, the organization mails a high-quality, age-appropriate book to all registered children, addressed to them, at no cost to the child’s family.
First 5 works with the Plumas County Library to offer the program in Plumas County. Books are also available at each Plumas County Library branch for pickup.
“You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children,” said Dolly Parton. In total, 9,258 books have been delivered so far to 510 Plumas County children. Current enrollment is
- Chester area: 40 children
- Indian Valley area: 52 children
- Portola area: 104 children
- Quincy area: 102 children
All children under the age of 5 residing in Plumas County are eligible. There is no cost or obligation to participating families. An authorized adult must fill out an official registration form and notify First 5 Plumas any time there is a change of address.
Eight to ten weeks after the registration form has been received, books will begin arriving at the child’s home, starting with “The Little Engine that Could.” Books will continue until the child turns 5 or moves out of the covered area.
Families can sign up directly by entering their ZIP code on the Imagination Library website or by filling out the form at their local library branch.
