Plumas District Hospital sees part of a 150-acre parcel cleared through a fuel reduction project. Lands were thinned where the new 36-room, 40-million-dollar skilled nursing facility will be built in the coming year. The treatments included mastication, biomass removal, and some hand thinning.
Members of the Quincy and Portola communities joined the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, Plumas Fire Safe Council, and Hospital staff on an educational walk through some of the project areas highlighting the benefits of removing fuel from the forest floor.
The project was funded by the Sierra Nevada Conservation group through a grant awarded to the Fire Safe Council.
